First decide where and why the rug will be used. The fill weight doesn't tell you whether a rug is intended for wet turnout, indoor use or cooling down.
Three different jobs
The BHS describes turnout rugs as waterproof outdoor rugs, stable rugs as indoor rugs or sheets, and coolers as breathable rugs used after exercise.
Make a useful shopping note
List the setting, the maker's stated purpose, the size chart and fitting instructions. Then compare the features that matter to that job. If a product description is unclear about outdoor use or care, ask the maker before buying.
